It definitely deserved the Pulitzer Prize, but the "but" is that it seemed somewhat disjointed, and the plot flow in the book was somewhat disjointed as well. It's a good read, don't get me wrong, but overall, I felt that the way it flowed needed some work. I can't think more than that, and can see how it's controversial, how a Black person was "shot trying to escape" and such, and how the defendant wasn't guilty, but still was considered guilty by the jury. I guess it is a powerful read to some, and I salute them, but in some ways, I don't think it's that controversial. But if you ask me, the use of the n-word was time-specific, and so it tracks, but yeah, that's controversial too. 4 out of 5 stars
