A Troop, 2-4 Cavalry Book Series

I was inspired to write during my 2008-09 OEF IX Afghanistan tour. This is my well-researched (born from reading related material and a combat tour as a Company Fire Support NCO/Joint Forward Observer, as well as a tour in Iraq in 2004-05 as an Forward Observer, as well as a door kicker). I use my experiences in both countries to enhance with some accuracy, and feeling about the stories, so there's a piece of me inside each book, even though it's fiction. I also use my book reading to bring some imagination to the stories, where each book has a certain theme and element to distinguish itself from other military science fiction books (which is eclipsed by the Hammer's Slammers series, which is one of the best series out there).

The series of my bestselling military science fiction 14-book series is set in both the Hammers Slammers Universe (thanks to David Drake) and also my own Eagle Hammer Universe as the series progresses. Each story is part of a sequence, but can also be read standalone. They also vary in length, from long-winded books to shorter stories, but fulfill the story line as best as possible. It does have a strong female lead, who starts as Lt. Karen Juniper and becomes Captain Kim Juniper. Most of the stories focus on counter-insurgency warfare (rather than near-peer warfare) in the future and how the unit approaches the type of warfare with its own brand of handling business. As the series progresses, they find themselves in various situations, including a parallel universe.

The series starts with 2-4 Cavalry Book 1: A New Hope, where the unit deploys to the Pollo Mountains and fights and wins a rare insurgency campaign. The new unit fights counterinsurgency battles and, while rare, wins and decimates the budding insurgency. The book is set in the Hammer's Slammers universe and starts the unit off on a sound footing.

As the series goes on, they eventually end up in an alternate universe (mainly driven by the need to expand things in the Hammer Slammer Universe and David Drake told me to stay within the limits of his universe, and I eventually came up with my own Eagle Hammer Universe to work with) for future books. So after 2-4 Cavalry Book 5: Eagle Hammer, the unit becomes a national military asset with the Royal Dutch Army and conducts some mercenary actions, much like the NFDF (Nieuw Friesland Defense Force) in later Hammer's Slammers books. Then, after 2-4 Cavalry Story 15: In the Pit of Vipers, they become C Troop, 1/5 Kommando, and switch to a new commander, Captain Karl Bradi.
