With gracious permission from David Drake, this starts the 2-4 Cavalry series that I began while deployed to Afghanistan, and was allowed to write due to my military service. This book is about a new unit, called "2-4 Cavalry" and is an aircar (used in parlance by David Drake) unit that is deployed to the planet of New Hope, a Brazilian owned planet, to suppress or destroy the El Cator gang. Throudh various scenarios the unit fights the movement, and shows that the concept, while not as well liked in some circles, is an effective unit, even if it uses a more low-tech method (no use of combat cars, blowers or other armored vehicles) in order to fight the gang. Counterinsurgency is used throughout the book, reflecting my previous fight while deployed to Afghanistan. Led by Lt. Karen Juniper, the unit fights hard and well in this book.
